29 killed and over 35 wounded in latest ISIS attack on Egyptians Coptic Christians; Egypt carries out airstrikes on camps that trained terrorists in Libya

ISIS took responsibility for the attack on Coptic Christians in Egypt over the weekend.

Ten masked gunmen shot and killed 29 wounding en route to a monastery, with over 35 others.

The attack took place in the Minya province south of Cairo.

Egypt retaliated, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordering the carrying out airstrikes on Friday targeting camps in Derna, Libya where the ISIS terrorists who carried out the attack were trained. At the time, Sisi stated “The terrorist incident that took place today will not pass unnoticed. We are currently targeting the camps where the terrorists are trained.”

Egypt reported later that the strikes had destroyed the militant camps, a military spokesperson releasing the statement “The air force has conducted several intensive day and night-time strikes. They targeted several gatherings of terrorists elements within Libyan territory after coordinating and fully verifying all information. The strikes led to the destruction of the planned targets, which included concentrated areas for the training of terrorist elements that participated in the planning and implementation of the Minya attack.”

Over the weekend, Israel’s Tel Aviv Municipality lit up his headquarters with the Egyptian flag in solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attack.
