Haniyeh to replace Mashaal; Hamas new political document reported in media as progress for relations with Israel; PM Netanyahu addresses “complete distortion of the truth”
Hamas both named its new political chief after holding secret elections and released an updated Hamas policy document that world media reported as improving its stance with Israel over the weekend.
The document does nothing of the sort. Israel, including Prime Minister, condemned and addresses Hamas’s attempts to deceive the world whilst promoting hate, anti-Semitism and terror.
Former Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh was named Hamas’s new political chief on Saturday. Haniyeh will replace Khaled Mashaal. Haniyeh will reportedly move to Qatar as did former political head Mashaal, the leaders reportedly afraid to be assassinated by Israel.
Haniyeh stated on his appointment “It is a honor for me to inform our people, our movement’s members, and our nation… of the election of the brother Abu al-Abid Ismail Haniyeh.” On the “new” policy document he stated “Its very important for everyone to know that this document did not come as a result of pressures from any side. It is a result of the preparations of this movement through the past four years…”
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded to Hamas’s new policy government, criticizing the media for headlining the document as an effort by Hamas to improve its relations with Israel. In a televised address in English, Netanyahu addresses the global community stating “Ever wonder what fakes news is? Hamas now accepts a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines. The New York Times headline called this moderation. The intimation is that Hamas now accepts that State of Israel? Great news, right? Well, except for one small detail: This is a complete distortion of the truth!”
He went on to explain what the document says while summarizing Hamas’s ongoing efforts to destroy the State of Israel. He stated, “The new Hamas document says that Israel has no right to exist, it says every inch of our land belongs to the Palestinians, it says there is no acceptable solution other than to remove Israel. So why does Hamas say there is a consensus for a smaller Palestinian state no? In order to destroy Israel later! They want to use their state to destroy our state.”
He then criticized global media referring to “progress” in relations between Israel and Hamas asking “Is moving from calling for genocide of all Jews to calling just for the annihilation of Israel, is that progress or moderation? Only if you have no standards whatsoever. It’s bad enough Hamas lies to the world, we don’t also have to lie to ourselves.”
The prime minister ended his statement “Hamas murders women and children. It’s launched tends of thousands of missiles at our homes. It brainwashes Palestinian kids in suicide kindergarten camps! So, where does this hateful document below?”
