Attempted attack on Israeli embassy in Turkey thwarted

No injuries or casualties reported; Assailant shouted “Allah Akbar” before being shot by local security forces


One person was shot and wounded in an attempted attack on Israel’s Embassy in Ankara, Turkey Wednesday, the assailant reportedly having screamed “Allah Akbar” (God is great in Arabic) as he approached.

The man was shot in the leg by local security forces and taken into custody. No one was injured in the thwarted attacked.

Spokesman for Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emanuel Nachshon confirmed the incident stating, “A man rushed at the embassy with a knife and was shot and wounded in the legs by local security forces.”

The Turkish media outlet “Daily Sabah” reported multiple gunshots heard at the embassy and that all embassy staff were moved to protected area. An investigation is underway and high security, with reports of a suspicious bag found near the embassy and a bomb squad deployed.
