Iran showcased its recently acquired S-300 air defense missile system during its annual Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army Day in Tehran. Parades were held, with speeches given by military officials and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The first shipment of the arms purchase with Russia was delivered last week.

Rouhani spoke during a military ceremony, praising Iran’s superior military potential and reiterated his stance that Iran’s continued advances in its “military and missile program” as not in violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231. He also vowed support from the Islamic Republic against “terrorist or the Zionists”.

He stated “The Iranian Army is the army of Islam, Islamic system and the whole Iranian nation. This army defends our establishment, homeland, laws, prestige, and national interests… If we can now proudly speak of our country’s security in such an insecure and unstable region, it is all due to having a mighty army, powerful Revolutionary Guards…” He stated on diplomatic efforts against Iran’s missile program advancement, “even our enemies admit Iran’s military power and missile program have nothing to do with the nuclear deal and the Resolution 2231. They too acknowledge the fact that Iran’s military might must be preserved and strengthened.”

Rouhani assured “that the Islamic Republic’s military, economic and political power will never be used against neighbors and other countries in the Islamic world” referencing remarks he made during the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Istanbul last week. He stated that Iran would assist countries from the OIC if they were to be attacked by “either terrorists or the Zionists” that “the power that would respond to their appeal for help would be the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

He warned “I hereby address the conspirators and plotters against our country that our armed strength is fully active for carrying out deterrence and defense operations.”
