Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the removal of sanctions on Iran in his Sunday cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

He praised Israel’s efforts in opposition of the nuclear deal, as well as Israel’s history and involvement in having sanctions placed on Iran, as well as bringing its nuclear program to international attention. He stated “Were it not for our efforts to get sanctions imposed and to stop Iran’s nuclear program, Iran would already have nuclear weapons. Israel’s policy was and remains that it will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. What is clear is that Iran now has more means to allocate to terrorist activities and aggression in our region and around the world. Israel is prepared to handle any threat.”

The Office of the Prime Minister released the following statement after the official announcement on “Implementation Day”: Even after signing the nuclear deal, Iran has not relinquished its ambition to obtain nuclear weapons, and continues to act to destabilize the Middle East and spread terror throughout the world while violating its international commitments. World powers and the IAEA must closely monitor the activities at Iran’s nuclear sites and other sites to ensure it is not continuing to clandestinely develop nuclear weapons. Without an appropriate reaction to every violation, Iran will realize it can continue to develop nuclear weapons, destabilize the region and spread terror. Israel will continue to monitor Iran’s negative activities and will do all that is necessary to protect its security and defend itself.”

And while Iranian and Western officials alike praised the diplomatic success of the nuclear deal, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated, “Everybody is happy except the Zionists, the warmongers who are fueling sectarian war among the Islamic nation, and the hard-liners in the U.S. Congress.”
