Bill calls to cut US foreign aid to Palestinians as long as they pursue war crime charges against Israel in ICC; Rand: I will continue to do everything in my power to make sure this president and this Congress stop treating Israel’s enemies as American allies.
US Republican Senator Rand Paul introduced a bill to United States Congress calling for a halt to US aid to the Palestinians if they continue to pursue charging Israel with war crimes in the International Criminal Court.
The legislature, titled “Defend Israel by Defunding Palestinian Foreign Aid Act of 2015” would immediately halt foreign aid from the United States to the Palestinian Authority until they withdraw their request to join the ICC.
The Palestinian Authority intends to join the ICC on April 1, 2015 as confirmed by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday.
Senator Paul, who introduced the bill on Wednesday, stated on the move that, ” It is up to the new Republican-led Congress to move on its own so that the President does not once again circumvent clear funding restrictions. We are currently sending roughly $400 million of US taxpayer dollars to the Palestinian Authority. Certainly, groups that threaten Israel cannot be allies of the US; I will continue to do everything in my power to make sure this president and this Congress stop treating Israel’s enemies as American allies.”
